Media centre PRESS RELEASE
issued on behalf of Scenic Blue PHOTOCALL … PHOTOCALL … PHOTOCALL
GARDENING BY NUMBERS! The meticulous work of Rugby based garden design and construction company Scenic Blue will be unveiled this Thursday, when two magnificent new pavements are unveiled to the public, inspired by the work of the 12 th century Italian mathematician, Fibonacci. The pavements which feature in the University's botanic garden, are based on the famous set of numbers named after Fibonacci and demonstrate how the mathematical pattern is responsible for various spiral patterns that are common to nature and to plants in particular. The two pavements constructed by Scenic Blue represent a snail and a pine cone, in addition there is a small hopscotch pavement. Each pavement contains four different colours of natural sandstone with the spirals depicted in “Orkney Red” stone provided and cut by a local stonemason. The pavements form an important component of the mathematics activity offered to schools via the Garden's Education programme. Note to editors: these are the only examples of Fibonacci inspired pavements of any complexity to be witnessed in England For further information please contact: Carla Wessel,
