October 2005

SCENIC BLUE HAILED LANDSCAPE CONTRACTOR OF THE YEAR

Scenic Blue has won the prestigious title of “Landscape Contractor of the Year”, at this week's inaugural Horticulture Week Awards which took place in London. The awards ceremony was officially opened by The Rt Hon the Lord Heseltine CH, Chairman, Haymarket Group Limited, owner of Haymarket Publications (who publish Horticulture Week) and hosted by newscaster Fiona Bruce.

The Horticulture Week Awards celebrate the very best in achievement, ability and performance across the whole ornamental horticulture sector.

The awards are supported by the Horticultural Trades Association - the trade association representing the UK garden industry which according to the Garden Industry Monitor, has a retail turnover of over £5 billion a year.

To win the award, Scenic Blue was able to prove that it had “effectively demonstrated excellence and has achieved quantifiable success in one or more areas, such as business management, improving turnover, customer relations or quality of work completed”.

In addition, Scenic Blue, who has its headquarters in Faversham was

praised for “revolutionising the world of landscape contracting”, with the judges commenting on the quality and range of projects the company has undertaken.

Set up in 1998 by Judy and Ted Behl, Scenic Blue trades via a network of franchise owners and currently operates 38 franchise territories across the UK, including two in Scotland. Since its inception the business has grown both in numbers and stature within the landscape sector, with an anticipated group turnover figure of £5 million for 2005.

The Landscape Contractor of the Year accolade follows hot on the heels of the company's success earlier this year when it exhibited for the first time at the Chelsea Flower Show, winning an RHS Silver Medal for its innovative recycled “Simon's Garden” show garden. Additional significant business achievements include four BALI (British Association of Landscape Industries) Awards in 2004 (three finalists have been selected for the 2005 event); an RHS Silver Gilt Medal at BBC Gardeners' World Live event 2004 and sponsorship of the Young Garden Designer of the Year at the Urban Gardens Show 2005.
