"Simon's
Garden" represents Scenic Blue's - the UK's only landscape
gardening franchise - inaugural experience of exhibiting
at the Chelsea Flower Show, which follows hot on the heels of the
company's strong presence at this year's Urban Gardens show.
This
impressive courtyard garden has been designed by the award winning
Scenic Blue Design Team, (Scenic Blue picked up four awards at the
British Association of Landscape Industries' Awards) with the build
handled by Scenic Blue Northampton, winners of the Scenic Blue's
internal Technical Excellence award. The dramatic results underpin
the company's founding belief that there is a garden out there to
suit everyone , dispelling the notion that landscape
design is merely the domain of the affluent minority and dispensing
with the view that the service is only accessible to those with
significant amounts money to spend - and acres of space!
The
garden belongs to a fictional character "Simon", a young, urban
professional whose recent purchase and renovation of a bachelor
pad in the city has left him low on cash. Keen to exploit the
tiny space referred to as a "garden" Simon sets out to create a
smart outdoor living zone, with a few quirky touches to uphold his
creative credentials. Simon, a true product of the 80s and ardent
environmentalist is also battling with his conscience in trying
to find an environmentally friendly way of disposing of his beloved
first car.
The
vehicle, along with the over-flowing skip at the front of the house,
is causing Simon - a recent recycling convert - much consternation.
The
solution is the creation of a stunning and dramatically lit contemporary
garden. This spectacular outdoor room features an amazing water
wall, stylised planting and - because of the money saved by using
reclaimed materials retrieved from the skip and parts of the beaten
up banger - an ultra modern outdoor sound system - in other words
the ultimate recycling coup.
Scenic
Blue has enlisted the services of a number of specialist companies
to enable the build of its outstanding recycling themed exhibit.
Pivotal to the success of the design is the skilful exploitation
of lighting architecture techniques, supplied by Rob Webber, Managing
Director of Scenic Lighting Ltd - one of only
a handful of dedicated landscape lighting specialists in the UK.
Scenic Lighting's expertise has been strategically employed to
create a welcoming ambience, combining a selection of innovative,
striking lighting effects ranging from washing to spotlighting,
to inject a genuine sense of drama into this compact landscape.
The
focal point of the design is a totally unique water feature which
has been crafted by Tills Innovations - a company
which prides itself on the delivery of bespoke stunning contemporary
features and sculptures inspired by the elements of nature. The
garden architecture masterpiece - which took three weeks to produce
- incorporates the pairing of sleek brushed stainless steel with
recycled glass and features water cascading through and over 204
wine bottles to create a truly memorable spectacle.
