Scenic Blue on Show

The company strutted its stuff on the show circuit this month with a high profile presence at Europe's leading contemporary garden event, the Urban Gardens show, which was hosted at Olympia 5-8 th May 2005.

Scenic Blue was involved in a number of initiatives including:

Young Garden Designer of the Year

The results of a nationwide search to find the UK's Young Garden Designer of the Year - in association with Scenic Blue - were revealed at the show. The judging of entries had proved a difficult task, with Scenic Blue's managing director, Judy Behl sitting on the judging panel alongside TV presenter and garden designer, Diarmuid Gavin, author and journalist Rob Cassy and Chairman of the Society of Garden Designers Andrew Fisher Tomlin.

After much deliberation, former Oxford College of Garden Design student, Sara Downes was unanimously voted the winner and her stunning "Urban Inspirations" was highly commended by Diarmuid who said "our Young Garden Designer of the Year has been bold and created a brave, clear and concise design that avoids contemporary clichés and which uses hard materials, planting and space to best effect. This points the way to the real future of garden design".

In addition to the receipt of a cheque for £2,500, Sara's dramatic design was unveiled to the general public on the first day of the show, with Scenic Blue undertaking the build of the garden.

Ultimate Urban Gardens Challenge
Our Urban Gardens challenge was one of the liveliest exhibits at the show. We invited members of the public to take to the stand and give gardening celebrities like Diarmuid Gavin and Matt James a run for their money, by designing a small urban garden (9 square metres) in just one hour.

Aided by access to a fantastic array of landscape materials, garden furniture and accessories the participants were expected to deliver a design capable of transforming a blank canvas into the ultimate urban retreat.

The proof of each contestant's design prowess was put to the test when the professionals (the Scenic Blue team) were given just one hour to interpret the plans and build the garden live on stage.
